Bryan Kest Power Yoga Vol. 1 – Energize Review

Brian Kest Power Yoga Volume 1 Energize (for Beginners) is a power yoga workout led by Brian Kest, a famous yoga teacher who’s worked with a couple of famous people if that kind of thing means anything to you.

I like the introduction at the beginning where he encourages you to enjoy what you’re body’s doing and not judge yourself if you can’t do the poses exactly. According to Brian Kest “There’s no such thing as a perfect pose.”He encourages you to challenge yourself but to know when to stop.

The workout is set in a studio which looks like an abandoned warehouse or something. It’s a bit dark and dingy in there but you can still make out what they’re doing. The set is populated by young, very fit looking young men and women, which I didn’t find intimidating, but some might. I was encouraged by the fact that there was quite a bit of wobbling and falling over there so I wasn’t alone.

This workout was hard for me. Some of the down dogs were held for sooooooo long. I had to cave in and go to child’s pose once in a while. The cueing was just ok. He talks…. a lot as he walks around the studio. This might put some people off. Mostly, I found it quite motivating. After doing this workout a few times I’m not sure how I’ll feel about that. He emphasizes breathing a lot which is good for me because I do find myself forgetting to breath. Sounds weird to some but it happens a lot.

This is a challenging dvd which you can grow with that will make a great addition to you workout mix.
